NOW LET’S TACKLE THE ROOT CAUSE- A campaign for PEACE

Hello blog,

I’ve reproduced a self-explanatory letter from the campaign for Ceasefire in the Middle East. Sign up if you want PEACE!

============================

Subject: Now let’s tackle the root cause

Dear Friends,

Two weeks ago, over 300,000 of us from 150 countries came together to stop the war in Lebanon. Since we helped to achieve a fragile ceasefire there, we’ve received hundreds of emails from you suggesting that we continue our campaign by focusing on a root cause of problems in Lebanon and the region — Israel/Palestine. Over a hundred civilians have been killed in this conflict over the last month, and strikes by both sides have residents caught in a desperate situation.

Images of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict have haunted our televisions for decades. Experts agree that the occupation of the Palestinian territories is a root cause of the war in Lebanon, has promoted tensions between Israel and the Arab world, and been a rallying cry for Islamic radicals who commit terrorist attacks on the US and other countries. And yet for years there has been no concerted effort or leadership to restart the peace process, despite some hopeful signs and opportunities. Please click below to call upon the UN Security Council, the Israeli Prime Minister, and the Palestinian President and Prime Minister to immediately implement a ceasefire in Israel/Palestine and re-launch a new and comprehensive peace process:

www.CeasefireCampaign.org

This is a moment of opportunity in the Middle East. The entire world’s attention is focused on the region, and world leaders like UK Prime Minister Blair and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan will be visiting in the coming days. In September, almost every world leader will be gathering in New York for a United Nations summit. US President Bush has moved quickly to focus all this attention on his agenda of a wider confrontation with Syria and Iran. We need to act quickly before this moment passes to direct attention towards the right objectives, and ensure that leaders at the UN Summit call for an immediate ceasefire and a new peace effort in Israel/Palestine. Please click below to sign our call to action and send your personalized message directly to key decision makers:

In calling for peace, we stand with ordinary citizens in both Israel and Palestine. Polling consistently shows that a majority of citizens in both places want peace based on a viable “two state” solution that would give Palestine independence and both countries security. If enough pressure is created, we could help to achieve a ceasefire in Israel/Palestine within days. Restarting the peace process will take more time, but we can take a first step by helping to get this issue higher on the international agenda…

With hope,

Ricken, Priscila, Tom, Alicia, and the rest of the Ceasefire Campaign Team.

Here

I miss my friends back home, but more significantly my friends here. I don’t see my friends regularly anymore. It’s because I’m busy with my priorities. I budget my money, and I only have enough to spend for my fare and allowance. I also need to give some for my parents, just a minimum of what I can give. In fact, I really want my life to start simple.I have lots of things that are on my mind right now. One of them is my past. I need to forget my past and my past mistakes. I know I made some changes to start my life anew. And next thing on my mind is what I’m doing now. I know I need to go on and focus on my priorities, which is studying, and that’s what I’m doing now. Lastly, are my future plans. I don’t know what will I become or what will happen to me, but I need to focus more on NOW so I will know the rest of what my future goes. This is it for now, I need to go back to my study.

PINOYS — 1st World Cup of Pool Champs

Congrats to Bata and Django! Grabe na naman tong mga idol ko! Champion! The Philippines emerged victorious in PartyPoker.com’s Inaugural World Cup of Pool. They took home the trophy and $60,000 (~P3M).

The top-seeded Pinoys defeated 3rd seed Strickland and Morris of USA, 13-5. Just imagine what the other teams felt when facing these two masters. I’m sure it’s just between fear or admiration, or both. And the audience was for the Filipinos, given the fact that there are many kababayans in Wales.

Bring pool domination back to the Philippines!

Indifferent

When the English dance, you know they’re drunk.Yesterday, I took the boys to town to do a bit of shopping. As it was bank holiday, there were multicultural dances. One particular interesting group was the Turkish all-male dancers and musicians. The music was great; very upbeat. I started to jiggle as soon as they started. But when I looked around me, nobody even dared to move an elbow or sway a bit of hip or shoulder! Everybody was as stiff as a lamppost, tight lipped as ever and glum looking like a typical English weather. After about 10 minutes, the band stopped playing and announced that they would love everybody to dance with them. The crowd then dispersed like they were just about to smell and hear a musical fart.

What’s more, Zak declared, Let’s go home mummy. I don’t like it!

stray

Last Wednesday, John and I were walking the streets along Silliman in the middle of the festivity air the university brings. It’s the Founder’s Week Celeberation and what can you expect in a small-town like Dumaguete when people come flocking from all parts of the globe just to take part in the celberation— PARTY!

Everyone was in their toes: juggling activities, strollings, partying till dawn, drinking sprees, and exhausting their energies to the very last bit. We were heading for our own bit of fun when we spotted a stray kitten who may be looking for its mom. It was soo cute, we didn’t hesitate to take a few snaps.

The kitten looked so lonely and I couldn’t help but feel bad about it. Here we are partying and having such a great time and here is this poor kitten having no one.

The sad part about it? Can’t do anything. I may have pity on the kitten but I still left it there. A lot of people, like me, feel sorry for animals but they do not do anything about it. So uch for pity. i guess, I will never learn.

Hello Again…

It’s been a while since I posted anything here. With all the commotions, the Kadayawan fever, office transfer, final exams, long holiday…whew! I don’t know what’s the matter with me, everytime I’m serving a dtuy at Davao medical Center, I get terribly sick. Maybe the stress? the germs? or whatever. I’m just so sick of being sick!haha I lost a lot of weight (as if I could spare for more??!). I’m skinny to the bone, that’s what I am now. *sigh*I need a break. Can’t wait to fly off and just forget everything…even for just a while I’ll pretend that I’m carefree! Here I am again, complaining and whining..hahaI just badly need a break. That’s all…

adobo ala asukal

just when i get my hopes up, i get jitterbugs when i try to think of the possibilities that may come up. happy days are back, im always full, and things like ciggies arent much in my mind. oh god i miss those days. stimulants? nope, they depress you. promise.just when i thought it was my payday, yep it was. it was. i just held on my money for like, four hours and then it was all gone. but lets not talk about those stuff. i would get it off my mind in like a sec, but look its back. twice in a row i met somebody whom i wish i wouldnt ever meet again. and i had to wait for a month to really get over the previous encounter. dammit. but hey here goes my irony. i enjoyed it. bwahaha.i felt happy just getting home cooking my own dinner, well technically my breakfast. cooking for yourself really is therapy, it lets you choose what you put into what you eat. it lets you choose the color of the food, its flavor, and well how well it is done. cooking adobo, plain adobo is simple. i was gonna put into the pan but i thought, hey lets makes this adobo special. i looked around for things i might put into and something caught my eye. perfect.brown sugar.i cooked the brown sugar first, turned it into «latik» and put it into a serving bowl. then i cooked the adobo as anyone would do. then i poured the «latik» into the adobo and hey, its adobo ala asukal! but i was not done yet. another thing caught my eye and it gave me this perfect idea. for a dip i mean. mayo!

im full. even writinf this entry makes me hungry. better get home and cook!

Behind Mona Lisa’s Smile

HAD HE GIVEN HER flowers on the first of November, she could’ve rested with the rest of our dearly departed and wouldn’t have been bothered by all his enigma. But no, three days of sequential bolts from the blue, he got her mind wander and wonder who he is. Mona Lisa’s hush-hush admirer.

Monday, a bouquet of very red roses. Tuesday, another bouquet of very red roses tucked inside a small native bayong that was tied to a cute cuddly bear. Wednesday, a bouquet of multicolored mums and a haiku on parchment paper. All those she got from UP Cebu Student Council (SC) office (she holds a position in the student body), delivered by a certain boy from a flower shop in the city.

Not a name was written. Who wouldn’t get intrigued? Even her mom was.

But she wasn’t at all that taken. She instead proclaimed with a loud voice, enough for a few crowds in the school grounds to hear: «Sa kanang tigpadala ug buwak ba, sakto na…«

Tulak ng bibig, kabig ng dibdib. So goes the Tagalog song.

I deliberately joked, «You should’ve asked for chocolates instead. Make it Japanese — no, specify it. Meiji Japanese Chocolates, in replacement of the flowers

By now, the flowers have stopped. Yet I know she still thinks about it. He’s one of the reasons behind her beautiful smile. Who could he be?

And oh, by the way, Mona Lisa (as how I fancily call her) — scratch thatBeryl, in this post, is my sister.
