Once Upon a Book Launching

SO THERE WE WERE at Kahayag Cafe, 11th of March 2006, for the joint launching of two Cebuano books: my first collection of poetry (Iring-iring sa Tingbitay sa Iro) and Januar Yap’s maiden book of fiction (Ang Aktibistang Gi-Syphilis) published by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under its UBOD New Authors Series. Now I know book signing can be such a compelling reason to get a masseuse handy.

One Dough

My wife and I attended a baking class today. Yes, I do like to cook and have a slight interest in baking but I was primarily there to support my wife.

It was interesting to learn what one can do with the same dough, from the morning favorite pan de sal to it’s afternoon counterpart coffee favorite cinnamon roll. It was worth the time spent, as any learning endeavour is. After the class, we got to taste the products of 30 mins of kneading and mixing and 2 hours of cutting and moulding and baking, all this with smiles in our faces. Oh, we also came home with four boxes of assorted baked goodies that we made.

Busa hingpit silang magkasinabot.

espn bar, avenue q, & karaoke — part 1

Just before watching Avenue Q, we went to the ESPN Bar to get some warmth from the freezing weather and play some games while we waited for our turn to get a table. Nel & TJ played basketball and baseball. Then, Essa & I teamed up to play air hockey twice (the coolest game ever!) against Nel & TJ. I’m sorry to say this, but the guys won! *sigh* … However, it was mad fun! After an hour or so, our buzzer for the table finally vibrated! The food was aiight! We had mini hamburgers for appetizer and we had this cookie in a skillet for dessert … that was muy delicioso! hehe :o)

snorting our drippin’ snot … haha

So, it was time to watch Avenue Q Broadway. IT WAS SIMPLY AMAZING AND HILARIOUS! From start to finish, all I did was laugh. Also, the leading guy (Barett Foa) is hot! However, when Essa & I researched him online we found that he was gay. *sigh* For some reason, all the hot guys seem to be gay these days! oY! Whatever! He’ll still be hot in my eyes! We took a picture with the them too! How lucky are we :o)

bohol the way i see it….

we use to walk along this shore lines for free but now, you can still walk in the sand but for a certain fee….this island is more becoming not for the locals……am afraid someday that we might end up like the beaches in cebu that the only left areas where the locals can use for free are the ones where you see garbage and human swim together…too bad but it is slowly becoming a reality… one sunday after noon i was biking along booy area, i was carrying with me my phone camera when i suddenly saw this piece of raft in the rocky shore..i was stunned and amazed of the beauty which i saw in this exact moment when the sun is about to set and this raft was like inviting me to sit and enjoy the sun say goodbye….

theres plenty of this in our backyard, i was just amazed of how could this piece of thing grab everyonce attention……

Portrait of an island family: The Costas Family History

In the mid 19th century, people from the town of Loon in Bohol migrated to the neighboring islands of Cebu, Leyte and Samar. The diaspora had been brought about mostly by the town’s barren land. Others simply ran away from conflict with Spanish authorities.

In search of a better life for his family, one man decided to leave Loon for Samar. Invited by relative, Evaristo sailed on a small outrigger, bringing the family and the only possession they had – a replica of Loon’s patroness, Nuestra Señora de la Luz.

After days of sunny weather at sea, the family landed in Batson, Pag-ambakan (now Barangay Santiago) in Pacijan island, one of the islands in the Camotes group. They needed a few days to replenish their ration before taking the final crossing to freedom. Samar was still very far away.

As fate would have it, dusk fell when they passed on the coast of Poro island a few days after. A kind stranger on the shore invited the family to spend the night at the bea…
